Originally from North Yorkshire, my husband, Colin and I gave up our jobs when we approached 50, sold up and set off to travel.Starting in Spain where we rented a tiny cottage in the glorious village of Gaucin from where we could see the Riff mountains in Morroco. Whilst in Spain we celebrated my 50 th birthday with our family and soon after we set off with one backpack between us. Whilst in New Zealand we came across a little shack on the lakefront in a small village south of Lake Wakatipu, which we bought for the price of a car in the UK! For the next two years we traveled back and forth until we were able to get a visa to stay! We renovated our shack by reusing everything we took out, even straightening nails! Once we got our visa we set up a business and after 7years of living we gained residency and citizenship...Hurrah! Sadly the cold weather was no good for my husbands health so, having house swapped with a family in the Sunshine Coast several times we moved here and now live in paradise in Noosa Valley Doonan where we adore the peace and quiet just minutes from all the action in Noosa.
In the UK I had little spare time having a substantial job which involved driving thousands of miles a week. I did love to make grand curtains, swags and tails etc and infact managed to gain a qualification with Distinction in soft furnishing and upholstery. My change of direction came about initially in New Zealand where a neighbouring artist insisted i join her mixed media painting weekend...my first ever painting is on our wall at home even now...so off I set painting every spare moment. in Australia I joined a beading class and then a glass mosaic class and have never looked back. I had an exhibition in Queenstown NZ with my art , have beaded for a company in the UK and had mosaics in both the Butter factory in Cooroy and the Pomona Gallery. I get a bit precious about the mosaics so I have most of them still on my walls at home. Lady Peacock was probably one of my largest project in that because of her curves flat pieces of glass do not fit. The beautiful glass waist band is coloured glass with a mirror back to show off the colours. Maybe a months work on and off.
I do hope you enjoy my efforts.
